Jams and contests seem to be a question on everyone’s minds right now as we begin to re-emerge from nation-wide stay-at-home orders and quarantines, while restrictions on gatherings remain in place. We have been trying to come up with an alternative for the last month or so and decided on a set of weekly InstaJams. James is originally from the Owego, New York area and many of you will know him from the Binghamton scene; he now lives in Austin, Texas. I caught up with him when I was visiting in January, but couldn’t make a podcast happen in-person, so we did it via Skype while we’re all still quarantined. This was very Binghamton-scene oriented and came out with a few good ideas for future episodes as well.

This past Saturday we did a live-stream podcast and were lucky to have some good interaction on the stream. We went live through our Mixer Channel, which you should go hit with a follow for future shows.

James Yusczyk co-hosted while we took on random comments and topics from chat, tending to be based loosely on the stay-at-home orders and Coronavirus. This episode was more of a learning experience than anything else, and as such, is pretty loose in the formatting. It just seems par for the course lately for me to be posting about the podcast a few days after it’s live, so make sure you follow/subscribe to the YouTube Channel and/or the audio only version on your favorite podcast platform (check the growing list out after the jump).

Anyway, this was my second time using Skype as an interview and the first time it worked well enough for me to post it, although the results can (and will) be better in the future. Anyway, most of you probably know Brad as @shins_are_beat on Instagram. Although we’ve never met in-person, this felt more like a casual hang-out than an interview. We may try to get a more formal interview set up soon, but I think you’ll feel like you know him regardless after listening to this one.

I’d also like to get a live-stream going at some point and will be doing that on our Mixer channel, so hit that with a follow too.

This podcast has been live for a day now and I’m just now getting around to posting the formal announcement. At any rate, some of you who already subscribe to the YouTube Channel or the audio version on spotify, apple podcasts, google podcasts, etc. (see the end of this post) may have already tuned in. If you’re not currently a subscriber, go subscribe now!

Now the important part, Sam Weber. Sam is a farmer from Upstate, NY with a passion for BMX. He travels, attends events, and rides when possible. Chances are, you’ve seen him around and possibly even chatted with him before. He’s an interesting guy with a lot to talk about.

The first half of this episode is mostly BMX focused and transitions to farming for the second half, which is a very interesting discussion. Towards the end, Sam starts getting into conspiracy theories, but due to some time crunches, we had to cut that one off and plan on a round 2. If you can’t wait, maybe you’ll have to catch Sam at an upcoming event, such as Swampfest, and ask him yourself.

Tom Beckman has been on the show before, on the No Worries Crew Podcast (Episode 022),  but he was pretty sick and didn’t really get to talk much. This time around is different and he’s substantially more alive and mildly more entertaining. In case you haven’t heard the news yet, FBM has closed it’s machine shop and left long-time welder, John Corts, on his own to either move onto other things, or start his own brand. With close to 20 years of frame-building experience, it’s not surprising that he is starting his own brand, simply dubbed ‘Work’.

John doesn’t get into a lot of details about the separation with FBM, so if you’re looking for drama, look elsewhere; but if you want to know what’s next for one of the best frame builders in the industry, click play and go follow what he’s up to at @jcortsmetalworks on Instagram.
